Always difficult to start a new blog. What will you write about first? Perhaps a little more about myself? Born and raised in Amsterdam, I could always be found on the beach. I had a second living room at Aloha in Wijk aan Zee, to which I always drove at the end of the day or during the weekends.
And when the search began for a new home, the dream of living on the beach came up again. But as an Amsterdam citizen, are you just leaving your city? To be fair, when the moving van arrived, I got the well-known “cold feet”, but my mantra “if you don’t like it, you will be right back” helped me through. And now three years later I wouldn’t want to go back. Zandvoort feels like Amsterdam. Besides the many Germans you stumble over the Amsterdammers. The no-nonsense, the humor, even the language, it feels like home. And of course there are times when I have to go back to Dam Square, then it itches, but then I take the train and I am at the Central Station in 30 minutes. Case the pleasures not the burdens.
Three years ago when I came to live in Zandvoort, I was the first to renovate the guesthouse. I had this one completely stripped and built from scratch. And then came the furnishing. You start with the essentials and keep adding. Every vase, spoon and gift for the guests has been thought through. It is never finished and you feel that there is a lot of love in the house.
I’ve worked in advertising all my life. Lots of shoots, photography as well as TV commercials and video. As a creative director, as a producer, stylist, brand strategist or as a customer. I like all roles and like to combine them. I had already learned everything about the styling trade at fashion academy, and now I have decided to combine my experience as a creative director, stylist and producer with dressing up beach houses. And not just designing, but also developing and establishing a brand. After all, there has to be love in it and you do that with building a brand. Love for nature, the beach, the guests and the house. On this page I will blog about beach life, about new sustainable products and about furnishing houses. I hope you will read along and enjoy it.
